THE HISTORY OF "HOOPS"
Hoops-For-Hope was started for one reason - TO BEAT CANCER. In 2001 our family formed a Relay For Life team to honor the memory of a lost family member. Relay For Life is a nationwide team fundraising event held in local communities to benefit The American Cancer Society. After watching two young family members fearlessly battle this terrible disease, we finally "got" the true meaning of Relay For Life. We became serious in our mission to raise funding and awareness for The American Cancer Society. All monies raised from our Hoops-For-Hope event go directly to The American Cancer Society.
In the summer of 2004, at our annual family reunion, what we now call "HOOPS" was born! We decided it was not only a way for our team to raise funds for The American Cancer Society, but also a fun, family-oriented event for others to share in. Plus, the participants also get to know that they too are helping to defeat cancer! As we say- "You're not just playing for a trophy, you're playing for a cause!".
Our 2005 and 2006 tournaments had 40 teams participating and raising over $3000 for the American Cancer Society each year! It is our hope that each year we increase the number of teams participating, and therefore raising even more funding! Players of all abilities are welcome to play in our tournament! It is our commitment that HOOPS be a fun, competitive, and clean tournament. The image of our tournament is a priority to us. It is our desire that HOOPS-FOR-HOPE continue to grow, and we know that the best way to secure that is to continue to work hard at making it a first-class event. We strive to make this an event that our players, spectators, and sponsors can all be proud to be a part of!
